Hello all! My name is Emily Murphy and I am enjoying my second year at Lincoln Elementary in Lakewood City School District! This is my seventh year as an Elementary Music teacher, and I am so excited to be spending it at Lincoln.  I love working with my wonderful students everyday and getting to share my passion for music with them through singing, dancing, playing, performing and having fun. I truly believe in the benefits of music for our students, and see those benefits everyday in the classroom. I have the best job ever!

My first five years of teaching were spent teaching K-5 music in North Texas. Prior to that I taught private flute lessons in several districts around the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. I grew up in Taneytown, Maryland and I received my undergraduate degree in music education and flute performance in 2010 from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, located just north of Pittsburgh. I made the move to Texas to work on my Master’s Degree in Flute Performance with a minor in Music Education at The University of North Texas and graduated in 2012.

In 2018 I completed a my Kodaly levels course work from Southern Methodist University and am now a Kodaly Certified teacher. I use the Kodaly Method as the foundation of my teaching, which incorporates singing and music literacy through he use of quality folk music.

My husband and I made the move to Cleveland in the summer of 2018 and we LOVE it here. We just bought our first house in Avon, and look forward to putting down roots here in Ohio.
